Sporadic gunshots and explosions, Wednesday evening rocked Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state.
The incident which started at about 5pm forced many residents on the outskirts of the town including , Giwa Military Barracks, University of Maidugur, Dalori quarters, Molai area among others, to scamper to safety. Thousands of them were however prevented from running into town by the military men who mounted road blocks.
Sources said, the attack was launched by suspected members of Boko Haram sect who invaded the city with heavy weapons targeting military formations including 21 Armoured Brigade (Giwa Barracks) that came under deadly attacks last year.
Meanwhile, pandemonium engulfed Maiduguri as residents in their confusion flee for dear lives, not helped by the 7pm-6am curfew in the town.
