Buhari, congratulates Adesina on investiture as new AFDB president

President Muhammadu Buhari  and the Vice President, Prof.  Yemi Osinbajo have congratulated Nigeria’s former Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, on his investiture as the new President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), in Abidjan, yesterday.
Prof Osinbajo, while addressing the audience on behalf of the President, expressed confidence that, “ Dr. Adesina will make a fine president and a successful one.”

He recalled the zeal with which Adesina pursued his assignment as minister of agriculture in Nigeria and commended him for his victory at the bank’s election in a race that was keenly contested.
The vice president  commended the tremendous growth of the AfDB under the immediate past president, Dr. Donald Kaberuka, during which, he said, “the bank tripled its capital base” and mobilised enormous resources.
Also  speaking at the event,  Mr. Sonny Echono, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, expressed delight at the prospects for Nigeria due the emergence of Dr. Adesina as AfDB president. According to the permanent secretary, “this presidency of AfDB offers Nigeria bountiful opportunity to harness our potential.”
He noted that the bank’s focus on power, agriculture and rural development, is good for Nigeria, with the diversifying, away from oil, which Nigeria’s president is pursuing to attain growth for our country.
