Unlike his colleagues, the afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has defended the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, who was said to have threatened Igbos with death unless they vote for Akinwumi Ambode on April 11.
The musician took to Facebook to express his rage over the attacks on Akiolu:
“Who are these people lying against the throne of Lagos? I am sure the Oba of Lagos didn’t say those words cos if he did his days on the throne are numbered. For he is a father to all children and a host to all guests!”
The youngest son of legendary afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti continued that he trusted the Oba. The musician suggested that the whole show was another trick attempted by the Peoples Democratic Party.
“I don’t have to wait for that to be refuted I can already see it’s the usual PDP dirty politics.”
Commenting earlier on the issue, he said:
“The callousness of the PDP is unrelenting oooo. Imagine the Igbos agreed yesterday to abandon a sinking ship and then the PDP tries to sell a lie that they will be drowned by the rescue boats. Isn’t that just wicked?”
Meanwhile angry reactions keep tracking the statement. The PDP on April 6, Monday, condemned the purported threatand urged Nigerians to stand up against such anti-democratic tendencies.
