White Policeman in South Carolina Charged With Murder After Shooting Unarmed Black man
A White police officer in Charleston, South Carolina was charged with murder on Tuesday after a video showed him shooting an unarmed black man.
The policeman, 33-year-old Michael T. Slager lied in a police report, stating that he had shot the victim, Walter Scott, 50, because he had forcefully taken his taser from him during a traffic stop, and was scared for his life. However, video footage of the incident shows that Slager shot Slager 8 times while he was running for his life.
Slager had also lied that he tried to administer CPR to the victim. However, the video showed that this was false.

According to New York Times, Scott, a father of four, had been arrested 10 times in the past, mostly for failing to pay child support. It is believed that he fled from the police officer because he was scared he would be sent to jail for failure to pay child support.
“He has four children; he doesn’t have some type of big violent past or arrest record,” said Chris Stewart, a lawyer for Scott’s family. “He had a job; he was engaged. He had back child support and didn’t want to go to jail for back child support.”
